Process

Our strength is our adaptability. We draw upon a spectrum of disciplines, talents, and tools as we tailor our problemsolving approach to the unique story of each project.

Experimentation and imagination are core ingredients of early concept, and we embrace ideation. Discovery during this phase of research and feasibility enables us to stretch briefs beyond what is thought possible. If our enquiries take us outside familiar territory, we mobilise specialists. The common thread that ties together all our projects is a relentless drive to redefine expectations and open new avenues and directions for progress.

Our concepts are informed by materials. We explore their inherent properties and textures, and how they might sync together into coherent, thoughtful forms. At all times, we have an eye towards sustainability – creating timeless, purpose driven works that will have a positive impact on their environments.

Throughout our process, we share our narrative. The studio is fully transparent. We offer insights into our discoveries and encourage feedback through workshops at each juncture along the journey.

Sustainability is central to the studio ethos, and we strive to make products that last. We look for ways to breathe new life into used materials, and consider how our projects will age, down to the smallest detail. We are passionate about creating icons of reuse.

Drawing represents the central expression of an idea, and it is elemental to any design. Our sketches are where our project stories begin and take shape.

After the initial ideation, we translate sketches into 3D computer models. By parameterising their forms and geometries, we can adapt and change the designs in real time as we explore the concepts and impose different constraints. Physical studies are invaluable as we start to question engineering principles and materiality. 3D printing and prototyping lead our formal studies and enable us to consider and select design details and textures. There’s no substitute for getting hands-on with the product.

We meticulously source our collaborators where needed. We have established relationships with many specialist consultants who contribute to projects through fabrication and manufacturing. They help us make our own specialist tools and machines where we utilise our own innovations alongside established industry techniques. Collaborators share our attention for detail and revel in our ideas and imagination.
